Yoda, the Four “Eared” Cat

His name is Yoda, but he is not green.  However he does have a feature that might be found on a Star Wars character, a second set of ears.

Yoda is a gray cat with a pleasant disposition and four ear flaps.  The unusual feature is due to a genetic miscue.  

At least a couple of stories are circulating as to how he was named.  One simply states that the son of Ted and Valerie Rock named him after the Star Wars character.  The other has him being named by the Rocks after hearing that George Lucas had based the Jedi Master after his cat.

Yoda was an upgrade from the name Ted had for him after they first found him in a bar on the South Side of Chicago.  The bar owner was giving away the litter and Yoda was the last.

“I had named him Barfly,” Rock said. “But we kind of liked Yoda better, and Barfly lasted only about a day.”

“The people in the bar, because it was coming up on Halloween, were thinking it was a devil cat or had evil powers or something,” Rock told FOXNews.com.

Yoda has become something of an Internet sensation with his unusual features.  Fortunately, his fame has not come at the price of his well-being.  The Rocks have taken him to several veterinarians and each have found him to be healthy.

However, the Rocks are very protective of their pet.

“We always let the cats go outdoors, but this one was so unusual we decided we didn’t want to do that,” Rock said. “So we had him chipped, and we keep him inside.”

“He is perfectly normal, hears well, energetic, cute little cat - very friendly, very social.”
